Video: TBX1 (making of the magic microtonal box)

November 14, 2017

In 2015, I recorded some video of myself making enclosures for TBX1. Only the work done in my "clean" workspace, made it on camera, and not all the work done in that space is shown. A lot of drilling, cutting, and punching metal and plastic pieces is left out, but things omitted are listed in the video roughly at each stage they would have occurred. By the summer of 2014, I had decided that this way of working needed to end, and I wanted to document at least part of the process, to try to give a sense of how much work went into every one of those units. Other steps involved in preparing a TBX1 not included at all in the video are things like:

This may not be Cinema at its finest, but I hope at least it's not too dull to watch …

The work itself was something for the most part I took pleasure in, and I was always was able to take pride in the results, but after some years I also realised that this way of doing things is more work than it should be. That is the main reason I am using new methods to build enclosures for TBX2. The new methods are faster, and result in good-looking enclosures which are much more robust. Probably in the future I'll make a video to document this stage, too.

Oh, and don't forget that the earlybird reserve for TBX2 is only open until the end of November!

Best Regards,
Aaron
