Universal Tuning Editor - Major Update

October 26, 2018

Universal Tuning Editor – the name alone is a rather bold claim. This app is slated to become a new standard in tuning software, though it is still in its baby-phase. This major update addresses all reported problems with the previous release (which was only a minor update of the initial release). Until now, some basic functions simply did not work correctly. Thanks especially to TBX2 owner Hermann Beyer (who taught for over forty years at the Hochschule für Musik Würzburg) for reporting many issues, sending me screenshots and detailed descriptions of what was going wrong. When I am given detailed information with steps to reproduce problems, I can fix things much faster!

So the focus of this release continues to be basic functionality and stability. To these aims I also added speed optimisation. Tuning calculations were initially rather slow, but after a lot of tweaking the application works up to five times faster now. Maybe also noticeably, the toolbar has been reworked to show important information at a glance, instead of requiring sub-windows to be opened to see various parameters. This updated toolbar also includes separate icons for MIDI IN & OUT.

One thing you may notice is that the documentation has not been updated to reflect the changes made in this release. This is intentional, because I expect some further modifications to take place. The current changes should be obvious, so they do not really require explanation. Documentation will be updated when more functions have been implemented which benefit from thorough explanation.

Have you used ute yet? Try it out and tell me what you think, and please bear in mind that the application is still in its infancy, with many features missing which will be added in future releases. Is there a feature you urgently need? Let me know, it may be high on the to-do list already.

Please download the update from the ute software page.

Best Regards,
Aaron
