TBX2 and UTE documentation updated / MIDI Interfaces

January 28, 2019

The latest updates to TBX2 and UTE documentation have been made following communications with a few customers experiencing problems updating TBX2 firmware. In each case we were able to determine that the problems are a result of MIDI Interfaces which do not properly support System Exclusive Messages (sysex). So far we have compiled a short list of interfaces which either totally fail or (worse) show erratic behaviour when sending sysex messages. Note that these interfaces may work fine with some very short sysex, but they do not have large enough buffers for large sysex messages. This is a hardware problem and cannot be solved with driver updates, so these interfaces simply should not be used.

DO NOT USE THESE MIDI INTERFACES
Roland UM-ONE
E-MU 1x1 Tab
All cheapo / no-name interfaces from China

Because this is an important requirement for our hardware devices, we we have decided to design our own MIDI interface to offer you in the future as a failsafe choice. Until our MIDI interface is available, we recommend the following third-party product which is known to work correctly for all sysex:

WE RECOMMEND THIS MIDI INTERFACE
iConnectivity mio

For problems with MIDI, please see the Troubleshooting sections in the documentation.

Please download the updated documentation from the TBX2 and ute product pages.

Best Regards,
Aaron
