Universal Tuning Editor 1.3.8

April 11, 2019

It happens maybe more often than not that a major software release requires some slight tweaking after it has been out in the wild for a bit. In this case, UTE 1.3.5 introduced last month gets another small touchup.

A potential startup crash for all new users was found. I would like to offer my apologies to anyone who downloaded the app and was greeted with an error message, even if simply restarting the app solved the problem.

Anyone who started using the Reduce ET Notation feature might have noticed that transposed entries around period boundaries would sometimes change period iterations (usually octaves) when reduced. I'm happy to say that this problem has been fixed. Some other issues with tunings involving the ET notation with zero-based notation is used have also been fixed.

Exporting of Scala files with keyboard maps has been a major challenge, and this latest version of UTE shows major improvement in this area. As far as we know, any troubles a 3rd party app might have importing the .scl + .kbm pairs exported from UTE would be a problem in that app, not a problem with the exported files.

Some details in the Instrument definition files continue to be found and fixed, such as wrong starting MIDI notes for smaller piano keyboard sizes. The Axis 49 keyboard is now represented correctly. Do you use a Microzone or a Terpstra keyboard? Try loading the definition file and tell me how t works for you. Of course I'd like to make the corresponding .uinst definitions as accurate as possible.

Also don't forget that all software license holders can request new features at any time.

Please download the update from the UTE software page.

Regards,
Aaron
