UTE Update 2.0.8

February 24, 2022

All reported bugs have been fixed in the current update of Universal Tuning Editor, including issues with project saving, lost preferences, and odd window behaviours on macOS. For Lumatone owners a couple of new features have been added. The first is support for polyphonic aftertouch as well as channel aftertouch. Since UTE handles microtonal output on multiple channels (in a way that's compatible with MPE synths) the polyphonic aftertouch messages are converted to channel messages and routed to correct channels for each sounding note. The second feature expands the possibilities of using the Lumatone with UTE, by allowing switching between projects on-the-fly, including proper handling of sustained notes during project switching. When using UTE for microtonal output, if you press a preset button on the Lumatone, the software can now respond to that button press by switching the frontmost project window, effectively changing the tuning layout in real time. This function is limited to two project windows due to a limitation in the Lumatone firmware, which may be improved with an update from their team at some point. Since I don’t own a Lumatone myself, I corresponded with keyboard owners Dolores Catherino and Juhani Nuorvala who tested the beta versions, so special thanks go to both of them.

Please download the update from the UTE software page.

Stay well,
Aaron
