Updates - UTE 1.8.2 and FLASH firmware v5

October 31, 2020

In the latest Universal Tuning Editor update, support has been added for our recently shipped TBX2b, for programmings Tunings, Presets, USR data, Global Params, Backups, and Firmware Updates. New features have also been added for the LinnStrument MIDI controller, allowing key colors to be programmed. A new mode supporting LinnStrument's MPE output is also available, though we still need some help from LinnStrument owners to iron out a few issues with that. If you can help, please send an email.

The full list of UTE updates along with the download package can be found at the UTE software page.

Our other big news is our FLASH synth firmware update (v5), which includes a new feature allowing the synth to boot up with automatically selected microtonal tunings on each of 16 MIDI channels. This means you no longer have to send CCs to the synth to make all your tuning selections after plugging it in.

Users will need to install the lastest version of UTE (1.8.2) and update the FLASH firmware to v5 in order to activate the new feature.

The new section on p.25 of the FLASH documentation under Software - UTE, Startup Tunings explains what to do. After selecting tunings in the FLASH window, simply select the new menu item Autoselect these Tables at startup and FLASH will get programmed with the startup instructions to activate those tunings when it is plugged in.

Thanks to FLASH owner Roy Carr for requesting this feature, which definitely makes the synth easier and more fun to use for microtonal work!

Stay well everyone,
Aaron
